This blog is on hold now. I stopped liking the format of photo stories which I have posted here, and did not come up with anything else. I also started using Instagram and Facebook to share my work, and just repeating things did not seem right.

Tentsmuir forest

We do not roam the woods oft enough. We like beaches, true - all year around. We live 10 min walk away from one. Still it's not an excuse enough to ignore the woods, something to work on. We finally made it to Tentsmuir on a crisp October day. We roamed the dunes, ended up on the beach (again :-), and made our way back to the trees. It was full of autumn smells, yellow leaves, mushrooms, golden trees and the quiet.   It was full of tree climbing, treasure hunting, stick collecting and stick walking, mushroom watching, path running, log walking and all the fun.  To be continued - for I made too many nice photos to squeeze in one post :-)

When autumn rains leaves and sunshine

October is full of these gorgeous days, when the sky is clear blue and the world is full of autumn wonder. On such a day, being in the forest is like being showered in leaves and sunshine. Enjoy it while it's here, it rarely goes long without raining in Scotland :-)

Family photo session in St Andrews, West Sands beach

West Sands did not disappoint - beautiful dunes, moody sky, wind. But then, it very seldom does, especially if you do not mind the wind. We met on a beautiful September evening for this photoshoot with Marion and her daughters. Our destination was the very end of the beach, by the Eden estuary and sand dunes. Marion picked some flowers and decorated Keira's curls, girls shared some secrets and treasures found in the sand, wind was playing with Keira's hair. And me - I was observing it all as it unfolded in front of me, and clicking along. I often tell my clients that photo-session is like going for a walk together - this one was no exception. I am a very silent companion on such a walk - I might suggest something interesting if I see beautiful spot or some nature details that would make beautiful background for you. October sunset

The sun sits low on the sky, creating gorgeous long shadows. Which I like. A lot. So here we are on a warm October evening. Playing rock-paper-scissors, carrying around first golden leaves, stumbling but still running in the sun patches, and having some serious sister-brother conversations.

Tentsmuir forest, continued

This is second part of our adventures in Tentsmuir fores t. I do not have much to say, I loved it and pictures tell it all much better than words :-) I thought that I've included about half of the photos in the first post. How wrong I was! This one is interesting, because it shows the face Masha makes, when she does not want to be photographed. This time I did it though. With Grandpa. This boy, making faces and running away. Then coming back :-) This girl, with messy bun. She is a modern version of Little Red Riding Hood, in red converse instead of the hat. It was good. We should come back.

Fife Coastal Path

Our first walk of the year. Stomping through the mud, and lots of it. Some of us did even manage a bit of mud sliding. The sea had this surreal turquoise color, along with grey moody sky it was beautiful. Lots of dry grass, sticks and bushes, thorns. We did not go down to the beaches, it was too muddy and slippery for it. Next time.

Family photoshoot | Fife Coastal path, St Andrews

Here's a beautiful throwback to last summer, when we went for a walk on Coastal with adorable baby Sam. Summer sun makes beautiful days, but is often too strong for nice photos - we waited for a cloudy day and planned for an early afternoon so that there's no conflict with meals or nap time. I try to be as flexible as possible with babies and do the photo session around their eating and sleeping routine. Long summer days help a lot here. Family photos on St Andrews|Fife Coastal path It's a great short walk that provides a lot of diverse backgrounds for photos - the path itself with greenery around, nice small beaches which are usually empty. This was the first professional photoshoot for Sam, and he did so well! His outfit was perfect - granddad shirt with seagulls pattern was especially fitting for the beach. 5 fun games for natural family photos on the beach / family photo shoot on West Sands

I'm often asked, what do we do during our photo shoot, and what do we need to bring with us?  The answer to the first one is - do you have a favourite activity, or something you usually do when outside? No worries if not, or if every walk is a new adventure (our family walks are often like this, so I understand!).  Here's a list of 5 simple activities and games for the beach that kids love (and adults too!), and that result in great natural photos. We did most of it during this family photo session on West Sands with little Noah and his baby brother. Most of these activities don't require any additional toys or equipment, which is great if you plan to walk and move around, and don't feel like dragging with you bags of toys and stuff. The few things I always have for a walk on the beach, and suggest to my clients are water, wipes and change of clothes. Treasure hunting Shells, rocks and sea glass are the obvious choice for this.
