3 reasons to have your family photos in Villa Giulia park

Villa Giulia is a park in historic center of Palermo. It has its origins in 18th century and is remarkable for its perfect square shape with diagonal alleys dividing the park in different sections. Marble statues and fountains, a sundial, shady alleys and open spaces, and wide variety of trees and shrubbery make it a popular spot both with locals and tourists.

If you'd like your family photos to have lush green background with a touch of special Sicilian atmosphere, this park definitely should be considered. It ticks all the boxes - plenty of space, nice surroundings, easy access, lots of options for things to do during your photo shoot to get natural and emotional images (anyway we don't do posed photos on the benches or next to flowering shrubs!).

Here are my top 3 reasons why villa Giulia is a great location for family photo sessions.

Reason 1

Lots of space and diversity. The park has an alley with Ficus trees, a little bamboo forest, a hill with cacti and succulents, beautiful benches with carvings and columns, pine trees, colonnade, more alleys with benches and low blooming shrubbery. This means that you can have a lot of diversity in colours, textures and backgrounds. The park is big enough that even if it's crowded, it's possible to find more quiet area, which is rare for Palermo.

Reason 2

It's easily accessible and safe for all ages. You'd like to have grandparents joining the photoshoot, but they cannot walk much? Not a problem, plenty of benches and you can drive them pretty much up to the park entrance! Young child who likes to walk and run but is not yet very stable on his or her feet? Not a problem either, the park has plenty of open spaces and easy to navigate alleys, even for little feet. Have older kids who need something more energetic to do? Again no problem, there are sticks and pine cones and space for different games you may want to play together.

Which brings us to

Reason 3

What can we do in villa Giulia during our family photoshoot? Here are just some ideas what we did here with my clients - exploring bamboo forest, climbing and sitting on roots of giant Ficus trees, collecting pine cones and sticks, stick sword fights, running, hide and seek, collecting treasures and exploring around. And more quiet moments - reading, chatting, tickling and cuddling. Anything your kids usually do in a park, or would like to do - is possible, and will result in true and emotional images of your family.

Quick facts:

- easy access and free entry

- toddler and pushchair friendly, flat and easy to walk

- your dog can join the photos too

- park has different opening times during winter and summer

- best time for photo session in villa Giulia is in the evening, closer to sunset, to have the best light
