Outdoor family photoshoot | Kingsbarns beach | Fife
This family asked to have their photos taken on Kingsbarns beach. It's one of their favourites, and nearby Cambo estate also is a special place for them. Of course I said yes! To have a family photoshoot in a place that means something to you and your family is the best choice of location. Also from a practical perspective, because you and your kids know the place, what you usually do there, you have favourite games etc., you feel more comfortable in general - so we can hit the ground running.
This photoshoot was no exception - kids went straight to the rocks for climbing and jumping, they played with the dog, chatted with the parents and each other. Nobody was sitting still - but that was not a problem at all, and most of the photos taken were the documentary style. These spontaneous shots are very natural, they perfectly capture personalities. No surprise such photos usually turn out to be the favourites, because they are true to life! Physical activities and interaction with the other family members is also the best way to photograph older children who often tend to be more self-conscious in front of the camera. They get lost in conversation, observing younger siblings or playing with them, and it helps to get relaxed and eventually forget about the camera.
We've taken many photos on the beach, walked to Cambo and visited some favourite spots there, then circled back to the beach. It has started to rain a bit, so finishing the shoot with a big family cuddle, seemed the best way.
