Xmas art


I was not planning to decorate this year for Xmas. We are going away, as we always do.
But some people had other plans. So we did decorate, we also made some of the decorations ourselves.

Some rocks from the beach, and paint - and voila, we have Xmas trees, snowflakes, Xmas comets, candy canes, gifts, and even Santa's been painted.

 Some art pieces we could not keep. Like the one below. Pity.

Last pieces of summer to go. It was rolling slowly under the hot summer sun, serene and calm, surrounded by green meadows and endless blue sky. The walk to the small river beach, refreshing coolness of water, the heat, the infecting lazy summer mood - it's all there.

What inspires me

Today's post is slightly different. Today it is not about my photos - it is about other photographers who inspire me and whose work I love so much. It's so many things that I love about their photos - candid approach, finding beautiful moments in everyday routine, beautiful details, their work with colours and editing, the way they capture emotions and little expressions that tell so much about the character of their kids. All the sweet things...

that happen in the kitchen. Cookies, cakes, fingers in the batter and chocolate. Everything gets tasted, and eventually eaten. Sometimes it includes the poor plate, or a bowl, or a random piece of table. Especially if you are the one stuck with baby biscuits and porridge, and no cake.   Ok, here comes the cake. It was mentioned here some days ago. And the cake maker. The cake maker was very good and patient with changing light and camera settings. The cake, chocolaty and fruity with nice sour note of raspberries, softness of ricotta and creamy chocolate ganache. And it is all gone :-) P.S. All the sweets mentioned in this post, have been successfully eaten. The bowl and the table are still there.

3 reasons to have your family photos in Villa Giulia park

Villa Giulia is a park in historic center of Palermo. It has its origins in 18th century and is remarkable for its perfect square shape with diagonal alleys dividing the park in different sections. Marble statues and fountains, a sundial, shady alleys and open spaces, and wide variety of trees and shrubbery make it a popular spot both with locals and tourists.  If you'd like your family photos to have lush green background with a touch of special Sicilian atmosphere, this park definitely should be considered. It ticks all the boxes - plenty of space, nice surroundings, easy access, lots of options for things to do during your photo shoot to get natural and emotional images (anyway we don't do posed photos on the benches or next to flowering shrubs!).  Here are my top 3 reasons why villa Giulia is a great location for family photo sessions. Photo a day - January

Published on 13th of February 2024 This January has been... different. It should've been great, we had a trip planned for New Year, my brother was expected to visit with his family, Mara and Matteo have their birthdays in January too. It turned out not quite what we planned and expected. The trip to Sila had to be cut short because everyone got ill, which turned out to be Covid, which as a consequence affected also Mara's birthday and made the time with my brother and his family a bit less fun too. On the other hand, it felt like my body and my mind needed this slow time after busy and stressful December, there was a lot to reflect about, a lot of rest and quiet. It's ironic that Covid became the answer to this, oh well. The January photos reflect this slow time too - we stayed at home or visited grandma's garden to collect oranges and to play, we baked and built pillow forts, planted bulbs for spring, read books and baked some more. Tentsmuir forest

We do not roam the woods oft enough. We like beaches, true - all year around. We live 10 min walk away from one. Still it's not an excuse enough to ignore the woods, something to work on. We finally made it to Tentsmuir on a crisp October day. We roamed the dunes, ended up on the beach (again :-), and made our way back to the trees. It was full of autumn smells, yellow leaves, mushrooms, golden trees and the quiet.   It was full of tree climbing, treasure hunting, stick collecting and stick walking, mushroom watching, path running, log walking and all the fun.  To be continued - for I made too many nice photos to squeeze in one post :-)

The force is strong with this one

This project has been brewing since a while. We even wanted to write down the ideas, cause Matteo had more of them than fingers on one hand :-) Finally the combination of sunset, being at the right location at the right time, plus the mood was all in place. So yeah, the force is strong with this one. We were rewarded with golden light and pretty sky. The playground nearby destroyed our plans for more silhouette photos. So more might come, if Matteo wants to implement his ideas. For now, this is what we have, plus lots of pretty sky, and sea, and golden cowlick :-)
