There are so many advantages for having your newborn or young baby shoot at home - you do not need to pack everything you might need and more just in case, you and the baby are in the familiar atmosphere, no need to worry about getting older siblings ready and thinking of how to entertain them during the shoot. Having photo session at home is also a deeper insight into your family and your life. So dear new moms, below you'll find some practical tips and suggestions on how to pick outfits, prepare yourself, your baby and your home for the shoot. Dads can read it too :-). 1. Preparing your home We need good light for the shoot - the rooms with big windows would work best. Usually master bedroom and family room are the main locations. To prepare your home for the shoot - some basic cleaning is needed, like made beds, a little tidying and organising (like hiding a laundry pile in a closet). Some of my most favourite things to photograph. Tiny fingers and toes, big yawns, how they fit snugly in your arms. How they stretch and curl naturally when they sleep. Those kicking feet. How tiny they look on your bed, and how solid and warm they feel in your arms. Every family is beautiful. Every family has its story. This one, I was humbled and honoured to witness all this love. I read recently that family photographers work in love business. I was photographing them couple of months ago, when they were barely out of newborn stage. Look at them now! However, there is a little problem here. We wanted some sleeping baby shots. I often edit photos from sessions at home in black and white. It's simple and classic. And as one of my clients said, it is more forgiving when it comes to little details we'd rather hide. And most important - black and white draws attention to the people in the photos, their emotions, their connection. And this is the most precious thing. So here's some black and white magic.   Oh dear. This one - my pure luck. This photograph, so simple yet so real. It's not classically perfect portrait of cute babies in pretty bonnets. But it makes you remember those first weeks with a new baby - tired, desperately needing sleep, somewhat confused and always behind with things - and endlessly happy. There is so much joy when a new baby joins the family - but also lack of sleep, all the feeding and changing diapers, teething, baby sleeping and not sleeping, sour tummy... I can continue for a while, and any mother could. This family has it double. They also have so many gifts and blessings. Full hands - and full hearts, so full with love. This time is short, a fleeting second on the timeline of our life. Your baby changes so fast, learns new things, makes wide gummy smiles, grabs your hair and fingers. You blink, and he or she is already rolling on the tummy. Another blink - and your baby is sitting, then crawling.  Another blink - and he or she is...

How often do we stop and really feel the moment? How often is it even possible, with the busy life around us, phones beeping with notifications, children asking for this and that, dinner that needs to be cooked, email that needs to be answered, laundry that needs to be folded... Yet, there are moments and feelings that matter so much, that they shape and mould us, who we are and what we are. First smiles of your baby. Getting settled in a new home, and making it a home, not just a house with walls and furniture and random accessories. Wiggly little bodies of your children, how they both fit in your lap.
